We've got some horrific memories
- by Liam Doolan
Just a few weeks after the launch of DOOM Eternal on Xbox One and multiple other platforms, the third entry in id Software's hellish series is now celebrating 15 years since its release on the original Xbox hardware. To be more precise, this game first graced Microsoft's home console on 3rd April 2005.
Whether you like it or not, DOOM 3 is easily the scariest game of the entire series – with jump scares and plenty of nasty surprises around every corner. Despite the positive reception back in the day, fans and critics alike seemingly prefer the newer style of games, which are considered to be a return to form and arguably do a better job channeling the spirit of the originals.
If you're at all eager to relive DOOM 3, you can always pick up a digital copy from the Microsoft Store and play it on your Xbox One. Do you remember playing this particular entry on the original Xbox? Let us know in the comments.

I do actually! Still have the steelbook in my collection. Really enjoyed the direction they went in at the time, and the graphics were terrific.

I remember playing this with a group of friends back in the day and somehow it was still terrifying.
@ShaiHulud Yeah, the graphics were amazing at the time!

I owned it, thought it was a decent enough game and I bought it again last year when it re-released on Switch. I do like the two games of this generation a lot better, but I remember being pretty wowed by DOOM 3's visuals back in 2005.

I remember borrowing my brothers Xbox to play this. I wasn't impressed, it dragged and went on, and on, and on, and on, to the point where I was desperate for the thing to end. I haven't played it in years tho so I'd be prepared to give it another look

I absolutely loved Doom 3 back in the day. I bought it for OG Xbox & was so impressed they figured out a way to put that game on console. The graphics were amazing at the time. And I am a huge fan of horror games, so I loved the change in structure to more of a survival horror experience.
I just replayed the game on Xbox One, however. I still think it’s awesome, but some of it’s faults that used to not bug me as much (monster closets, enemies spawning out of nowhere right behind you, the awful shotgun, etc.) bothered me way more this time around. And while the game has aged very well visually, it doesn’t have the same “Wow!” factor it used to have obviously.
I still recommend checking this game out. It’s a fantastic horror game & big change of pace from the first two games & the newer, monster arena style games of recent years.

I bought Doom 3 Steelbook the day it released and I still prefer that to 'current' doom in a lot of ways. It tried to actually tell a story - much like Wolfenstein has done and brought it up to date with games of that era.
Doom now is more like the original Doom but I do find it a bit repetitive and the glory kills got old fast. I do like the game but I like story driven games more, games that are not just kill everything (or most) in an area yo get to the next area and repeat...
In today's climate, with so many story driven games, I can see how Doom stands out now but I still would prefer a 'Doom 3' approach...

Doom 3 and Kotor are the main reasons I bought my original x-box. My pc at the time couldn't quite handle it, it worked but the frame rate was about 10. I still really enjoy the game, (though I do agree with the user that said it feels a little too long) but I find myself wishing I could sprint indefinitely. Doom is one of my favorite series, I'm glad all the games are readily available on just about everything these days.

@ShaiHulud Same! I have the steelbook version and the expansion (which was awesome) tucked nicely away in my Xbox section.
Really great game. The start was really creepy which was fantastic!

Doom 3 is actually my favourite of the series. I’ve just finished Eternal and although I enjoyed it I thought 2016’s Doom was better but nothing tops Doom 3, the missions, level layouts and jump scares, it had it all and they were lacking in the recent Doom games.

Do I remember playing it? Hell, yeah. Still own the Doom 3: Limited Collector's Edition steelbook to this very day, and recently, I've double-dipped for the digital edition on the Switch.
